About Us

Our Story

How a shared frustration with inaccessible genealogy education became a structured learning platform.

The Beginning

A Problem Worth Solving

Most Americans who want to research their family history face the same initial wall: they know the tools exist, but have no clear way to learn how to use them effectively. YouTube tutorials cover isolated techniques. Genealogical society publications assume significant prior knowledge. Hiring a professional researcher answers questions but does not build skills.

Xocahe Febeha was founded to address this gap directly. We developed a curriculum that treats genealogy research as a learnable discipline, not a mysterious art practiced only by specialists.

Our base in Philadelphia, PA reflects our connection to a region with particularly rich historical records. Pennsylvania archives, Quaker meeting records, and the proximity to major East Coast immigration entry points make this an ideal location for genealogy education.

What Guides Us

Principles Behind the Curriculum

01

Accessibility Over Complexity

Genealogy research should be approachable for anyone willing to learn. We write lessons for curious adults with no prior research background, building complexity only after foundations are established.

02

Evidence Before Conclusions

Family stories and oral histories are starting points, not evidence. Every lesson reinforces the habit of seeking documentary proof before accepting any family connection as established.

03

Context Shapes Meaning

A birth record from 1850 rural Alabama and one from 1920 urban Chicago require completely different interpretive frameworks. We teach historical context as an integral part of every research skill.

04

Practical Over Theoretical

Every concept introduced in our curriculum connects directly to a research action. Participants practice with real historical records, not simplified examples, so skills transfer immediately to personal research.

Experienced Researchers Who Teach

The people who design and deliver our curriculum are working genealogy researchers. They bring active research experience to every lesson, including the frustrations, dead ends, and breakthroughs that real research involves.

None of our instructors suggest that learning stops when a course ends. Genealogy research is ongoing by nature. Our curriculum is designed to make participants self-sufficient researchers who can continue learning independently long after completing any structured program.

Xocahe Febeha does not offer professional genealogical certification. Our programs support personal research education.
